What Confidence Do We Have in God That He Will Do What He Said?

Many people find it difficult to rely on a God they cannot see or physically feel. They struggle to be certain that God truly means what He says in His Word and that He will fulfill it. To some, God even seems like a myth.

However, confidence in God begins with knowing what He has said about a matter and then asking in prayer according to His Word.

Deep within your heart, you must understand that God is always ready to perform His Word. As it is written in Jeremiah 1:12, He watches over His Word to fulfill it. It is important to note that this refers not to our own words or the words of others, but to His Word.

The Apostle John reminds us in 1 John 5:14-15:

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.”

Therefore, asking according to His will is essential. His will is revealed through His Word. When prayer is grounded in God’s Word, it draws His attention. He hears and He responds.

God Has Already Given Us His Greatest Gift

We must also understand that God has already given us His ultimate gift.

When He gave His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins, for our redemption and forgiveness, He gave us His very best. In truth, He gave us Himself. This act demonstrates that there is nothing God will withhold from those who fear Him. With God, nothing is impossible.

As the Apostle Paul writes in Romans 8:32:

“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?”

Conclusion

Our confidence in God, especially in prayer, is firmly built on two unshakable truths:

  • What God has said in His Word
  • What God has already done through Jesus Christ for our salvation

Because of this, we can trust Him completely, He is faithful to do exactly what He has said.
